Become a COFLT Board Member

Nominate yourself or a colleague for a two year term on the COFLT Board.  Nominations are due APRIL 1, 2018.  Elections for COFLT Board will be held online during the week of May 1-7, 2018.

Board Member Duties according to the COFLT constitution: 

ARTICLE II -- PURPOSE

The purpose of this confederation shall be to unite all teachers of foreign and second languages in the state of Oregon and to improve both the quality and the extent of language learning and teaching in the public and private schools, colleges and universities in the State of Oregon. 

ARTICLE VII -- DUTIES OF THE BOARD

Section.1: All members of the Board, elected or appointed, shall be members in good standing of COFLT. 

Section 2: The Board shall assist the President and other COFLT officers in the formulation and administration of COFLT's policies, approve an annual budget, approve all appointments, approve the location of conferences, workshops and exhibits, set policies and procedures and request and receive reports from all COFLT officers and committee chairs.

Section 3: The Board may at any time refer any matter to the membership for general consideration, with the manner of voting to be determined by the Board.

Section 4: The language association representatives are to act as liaisons between the member association boards and COFLT.  They are to report on activities of their language associations at the board meetings, and  should help coordinate the calendars between the two organizations.  They are to help enlist presentations for the Fall and Spring Conferences.  In addition, the language association representatives are to present names to the Nominations Committee for Board positions and to the Honor Roll Committee for teacher recognition. 

Section 5:  The eight at-large members shall serve on at least one committee.

Section 6: The Publications Editor shall be responsible for the overall management of all the publications of COFLT, and may appoint a committee to assist him/her as needed.  Publication format and editorial policy shall be determined by the Board.

Section 7: The Web Master shall be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date COFLT Website including information from the language associations.

Section 8: All officers, board members, appointees, and committees may commit COFLT funds to meet expenses approved in advance by the Board.

ARTICLE IX -- MEETINGS

Section 1: COFLT shall hold The Annual Membership Meeting at the Fall Conference and may hold other membership meetings as necessary.

Section 2: The Board shall hold regular business meetings as needed, but it must meet physically once during the second and fourth calendar quarters.  The time and place of these meetings shall be determined by the President in consultation with the Board.  Board business may also conducted by mail, telephone or other electronic means (FAX, e-mail, googlehangouts etc).

Section 3:  The Board, when not physically meeting, may hold single-issue votes by phone or email.  Passage of the issue is by a majority of the votes cast, if a quorum responded.

Section 4: A Board member who is absent from two consecutive board meetings may be considered unable to discharge his/her duties and can be replaced.
